OLDER NEWS

Bruce is shooting a new movie. Here is how Melissa announced it on her MySpace blog:

"It is a western for cable called "Last Stand at Oak Hill AKA Aces and Eights". There is a photo I took of him in character on my photo page. He is not playing his usual dashing leading man role. He's playing a real character role and having a blast. The leading man role is being played by Casper Van Dien. Ernest Borgnine is in it too. I've known him ever since we did "The Lord is my Shepard" episode of LHOP."

2008 National Hospice Foundation Gala to Recognize National and International Advocates

Inaugural Buchwald Spirit Award for Public Awareness to Be Presented

ALEXANDRIA, VA--(Marketwire - March 19, 2008) - The 2008 National Hospice Foundation Gala -- "A Red Carpet Affair" -- will be held on Friday, April 11, 2008, at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC. This year's event will applaud some of the noted celebrities who have generously lent their influence to support hospice and palliative care at the local, national and international levels.

Bob Schieffer, CBS News Chief Washington Correspondent and Moderator of Face the Nation, will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

The evening will include a silent auction, dinner, and a post party with dancing and desserts, but the highlight of the event will be the special awards presentation.

-- Melissa Gilbert, actor, producer and pediatric care advocate, will accept the Humanitarian Leadership Award in recognition of her work on behalf of children facing life-limiting conditions. Ms. Gilbert is the board president of the Children's Hospice and Palliative Care Coalition and spokesperson for the Partnering for Children campaign launched by NHPCO, NHF and CHPCC in 2007. -- Mary Fisher, artist, author and an international champion who has cast a spotlight on the great need for compassionate hospice and palliative care in sub-Saharan Africa, will be honored with the Global Vision Award. -- NHF will present the inaugural Buchwald Spirit Award for Public Awareness to writer and director Steve Stockman and leading actor Julianne Nicholson for their work on the film "Two Weeks." The award is named in memory of the late humor columnist Art Buchwald, who became an outspoken advocate for hospice care during the last year of his life.

"The opportunity to support and celebrate hospice and palliative care in the U.S. not only honors those in the hospice community who work so diligently on behalf of quality end-of-life care, but it provides the opportunity to salute dedicated individuals who through their personal efforts create awareness, increase understanding and promote care that is so important to people facing life-limiting illness," said J. Donald Schumacher, president of NHF.

Reservations for the black-tie gala are now being accepted, tickets range from $250 to $750. Table sponsorships are available starting at $5,000. For information, visit www.nationalhospicefoundation.org , or call 703/516-4928.

JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT and her new fiance ROSS MCCALL helped give the poor and needy something to smile about on Christmas Eve (24Dec07) - by donating time and effort to the Los Angeles Mission Event. The newly-engaged couple joined celebrities like pregnant Melissa Joan Hart and Melissa Gilbert by serving up more than 3,000 meals to homeless and needy families. More than 600 children also received donated gifts as part of this year's (07) Mission Event . Love Hewitt says, "I have made it a point to come to the Los Angeles Mission at Christmas. There are so many hurting people on the streets of our city, but when I'm here I get to see the smiles of the children and the great food for everyone. "I think they are getting real help from the staff and volunteers. I come to give something back, but invariably I get more blessing than I give."

Biography: 'Cruise was a womaniser'

Thursday, January 10 2008, 12:48 GMT

By Beth Hilton , Entertainment Reporter

Andrew Morton's controversial biography of Tom Cruise has rubbished rumours that the star is gay.

Tom Cruise: An Unauthorised Biography claims the actor has chased women throughout his life.

Melissa Gilbert, who dated Cruise when he was 19 before being dumped for Heather Locklear, told Morton: "I can honestly say he's a very sexual person. There was a lot of making out on the couch in my mom's living room."

One former date claimed he was homophobic after seeing his reaction to musical La Cage Aux Folles , saying: "Men dressed as women, he couldn't handle it. We had to leave before the intermission. It really bothered him. He was definitely homophobic."

Cruise's lawyer Bert Fields recently described the biography as "sick stuff".

Morton has previously written books about Princess Diana, the Beckhams and Madonna.

APRIL / MAY 2007 Message from Melissa and Bruce.

May 28, 2007
Memorial Day

Hello Friends!

Sorry it has been so long since we last posted a message. It seems that we set out to do something and then, the next thing we know, six months have gone by and we still haven't done it.

We lead very busy lives here, especially with the end of the school year just around the corner. It seems to us that the work gets piled on our poor kids!

On the work front we have both been busy, Bruce's mini-series "Pandemic" premiered on the Hallmark Channel this weekend. He also just finished a movie for Spike TV called "Sharp Shooter" co-starring Mario Van Peebles and James Remar. He is also doing press and gearing up for the release of the new Babylon 5 movies.

Melissa finished "Daniel Steel's Safe Harbor" for New Line Home Cinema. Don't know the exact release date of that yet but will send out a heads-up. We have seen a rough cut and it's quite a lovely...well...love story. Definitely a chick flick and Brad Johnson is a total hunk! (This is Melissa talking, not Bruce). He also happens to be a wonderful actor and his performance is really, really, solid (this IS Bruce talking).

After finishing the film MGB went off to NYC to workshop a new, musical version of "Little House on the Prairie". It is called "Prairie: The Musical"...and now Melissa will take over from here;

Well, my friends I must tell you that when I was first approached about this project I thought "No Way! If it is silly I will be mocking what maybe the most important legacy of my career". Then I found out just who is involved;
My favorite playwright in the world; Beth Henley
Oscar winning composer Rachel Portman
Lyricist Donna DiNoveli
And our extraordinary director; Francesca Zambello.
(All of who have web sites that you can check out)

All I can tell you is that the workshop and performances we did for investors worked and "Prairie:The Musical" will be opening next summer. Not sure just where yet but after we open we will tour a bit and then, fingers crossed, go to Broadway.

It's all so exciting and new. I've never done a musical before. What a challenge!!..also... I am sure you can guess, I am not playing Laura...I am playing Ma. Full circle indeed!! The musical stays very true to the books and begins with the family settling in DeSmet..the rest you will have to see for your own eyes!!!

So, as you can see our lives are very full right now.

Melissa has an official myspace page. The link is on our home page. She is a brand new baby blogger (doing a terrific job according to Bruce) and does answer questions she gets there when ever possible. Though, you must be patient if a response does not come immediately. Word has spread and the messages are a bit overwhelming. Please be patient.

Finally, one of Melissa's MySpace friends requested her White Chocolate Coconut Cake recipe. We put it at the bottom of this message. Melissa’s best friend Sandy Peckinpah created it and it is truly spectacular. Be careful though, it is highly addictive!

We hope that you all have a wonderful summer and we will send updates as soon as we have them.

Be well, be happy and be safe!

Melissa's Message - 31st July 2006

Hello all, Here we are in the sweltering Southern California heat. Thank goodness it has cooled off a bit!

We hope that, wherever you are, you are having a wonderful and reasonably comfortable summer! We've all been very busy here at the Boxbert home. Michael has been in summer camp. Dakota, in summer school. Sam is still teaching guitar and Lee has been working his butt off in film school. He is getting ready to shoot his end of the year thesis and knowing Lee, it's gonna be twisted!!

Speaking of twisted, I have some news; I just shot an episode of one of my favorite shows Nip/Tuck .  I had an amazing time. The whole cast and crew were so welcoming and generous. They all made me feel so very comfortable. I don't know the exact air date of the episode I did but I know that the new season starts September 4th and I am in the 4th episode. It is called Shari Noble and I play Shari Noble. Now a warning; Nip/Tuck is not Little House on the Prairie ! I would highly suggest that you not gather the little ones around the TV for this one. If you have seen the show, you know why. It is a very adult oriented show with strong adult content and very graphic depiction's of medical procedures. If this is not your thing then don't watch. I would also like to remind all of you that I am actress. It's what I do for a living and as an actress I play all kinds of different people in all kinds of situations.

As for Bruce, he is working on a mini-series for Hallmark called Pandemic . They have a huge cast including Eric Roberts, Faye Dunaway and Tiffani Theissen. Bruce is having a blast, though the heat here has been kind of rough on him. I don't know when this will air either but Jayne will let you know as soon as she does! In a couple of weeks, I will begin rehearsals for a new play called "Leipzig". The play will run here in LA at the Strassberg Institute from mid October to mid November. Jayne will let you know that exact dates when we get closer to the opening.

My work with the Children's Hospice and Palliative Care Coalition continues in earnest. I actually did support on my first real hospice case. It changed my life...truly (you'll get the idea if you read the quote under my signature at the bottom of this message). To learn more about the coalition, go to www.childrenshospice.org

That seems to be all for now....Oh!...except for one more thing. We have a new addition to the family. A three month old, cream colored, French Bulldog. His name is Napoleon and he is asleep on my lap as I type this. The pet total here is now; 4 dogs 2 cats 1 fish 2 parakeets 1 cockateil 1 rabbit 1 tortoise 1 hamster We need to keep working just to feed all the creatures, human and otherwise, that live here!

Be well everyone. ending you love and peace,

Melissa "Love is bigger than anything."
